Canon Powers
TELEPATH :: At her core, Esme is a telepath. Her eyes glow blue, and she is able to work within the minds of others to a number of results detailed below.HIVEMIND > When in proximity and contact with her sisters, the Frost triplets act as a hivemind. They are able to share thoughts so that they can speak in unison or complete each others sentences with ease. Their combined power also gives them greater strength than they would have normally. Where they can only handle one or two minds at a time on their own, they have been shown to be able to handle a room of over thirty people when together.
MIND READING > Esme is able to enter the thoughts of other and read them like an open book. She can experience memories, emotions, and general thoughts in this manner. The weaker the mind, the easier it is for her to read. The more aware of her presence, the harder it is for her to grasp what she wants. It is easier for her to read the minds of sleeping or distracted targets, than the mind of someone actively trying to hide from her mental probings.
MENTAL INFLUENCE > Due to her abilities to read the thoughts of others, Esme is also able to manipulate the minds of others. This can be as simple as implanting memories or dreams in the subconscious of another, or taking total control of someone to do what she commands. As exemplified before, it is easier to do this on a mind that is distracted or unconscious entirely than one that is actively aware of her presence. Once caught, the target seems unable to resist. It's only if they start out resisting that they are able to offer continual resistance. This is shown by Esme and her sisters having total control over guards to force them to kill themselves or each other without hesitation, but they struggle to control one man as a hivemind when they directly force him to deliver a speech on camera when he's fully aware of their attack and fighting them from the start. Without the full power of all three sister, Esme seems to struggle with being able to do much more than thought manipulation and some minor control over a baby.
MENTAL TORTURE > This exemplifies itself in two ways with the girls. One way is that they are able induce significant amount of pain directly to the mental systems of their victims. Enough pain that it can even kill their target. The other way is that they are able to issue commands against one's well-being and be obeyed. This is exemplified when they tell a man to "stop breathing," and he behaves as if he is being choked. With control over a mind, they are able to cause pain in many forms. Alone, however, the latter skill seems out of reach and the former not strong enough to kill.
RED JEWEL > With her Red jewel, Esme will be able to reach the levels of her powers that all three sisters combined might be able to reach. While there wouldn't be the hivemind aspect, her influence and strength to overcome others would be similar to what it is when all three sisters are present. That doesn't mean it still can't be overwhelmed, but not as easily as it might be were she alone.
Personality
One of three, Esme has always been a piece of a whole. Esme's abilities lend themselves to aiding in tying up her identity with that of her sisters. Their telepathy connects them on a level most can't comprehend. The girls exist in their own bubble where they each continue where the other lets off.
That's not to say they're not each their own person, however.
As much as they try to appear wholly united, the truth is they are three separate people with three separate motivations and desires. Their shared experiences overall unite their end goals, but their thoughts diverge as much as any other individual's might. This type of divergence isn't wholly unacknowledged by the triplets, but Esme takes it further than the sisters are accustomed. This might be due to the divergence of experiences the sisters share for a brief time period when two of the three are captured, and Esme is left to find her own self for a time.
While separated, Esme spends her time away from her sisters and among others who selflessly aid other people. Due to her family history, Esme has always been on the more ruthless side of justice. She doesn't stop to think about helping individuals, only the whole. And the way to help the whole is to fight the whole of their enemy. She focuses her efforts primarily on manipulating others and making strategies for a war, that she loses the individual people in that war. It's not something she's ever stopped to consider until her time in the mutant underground forces her to interact with people on an individual basis.
Living amongst people who sacrifice for the protection of others, Esme plays the role of a caring girl who only wants to see her people freed. It's not quite a role, however. She does want to see the freedom of mutants. Thus, when forced to connect with the very mutants she claims to be fighting for, Esme's forced to see each person and relate to them one on one. This leads to "feelings," as her sisters will later mock her for, and Esme starts to care more about individuals and less about winning the war.
Having freed themselves from captivity, Esme has developed a sense of strength and self in her identity tied up with her sisters. When this identity starts to shift due to her time in the underground and even the marring of her skin, Esme starts to have dissonance with her sisters that becomes discomforting for her. It's as though two pieces of her war inside, her desire to care about individuals like Lorna and her daughter, and her desire to please her sisters and remain a part of their system. She struggles to bring the two pieces together as a whole, and ends up pushing herself to please both sides.
Esme is a bit of a perfectionist, as well. Whether it comes to her appearances or her plans, Esme expects utter perfection. Historically, her plans go best when she uses a bit of a rougher hand. Murder and manipulation come easy to the telepath. As she struggles with the empathy building inside her, she starts tries to bring that into her plans. She works on using more of a deft hand in her manipulations. Gentle pushes, rather than heavy shoves with her powers.
When confronted with her perceived weaknesses, Esme tends to double down on her strengths. Her perfectionism, her ruthlessness, and her all round ability to get things done. She's not afraid to exert her power where necessary, and ultimately won't allow her weaknesses to hold her back if she perceives them as such.
Esme particularly has a weak spot for anything that seems to pull her away from her sisters. While she acknowledges her changes in herself to some degree, she either tries to bring her sisters along with those changes or reverts back to their behaviors. This stems from a fierce loyalty to her sisters that rules all things in her life. Part of that loyalty comes from their shared experience as a hivemind of triplets, and part of it comes from the loss of two of their other sisters. Esme has felt the death of her own sisters in a deeply personal way, and that drives her to do what she can to not lose the two she has remaining. This often causes her to feel insecurity when her sisters point out ways she differs from them.
While she struggles with the changes she sees in herself as her own person and no longer on completely the same wavelength as her sisters, Esme knows that she's changing. Whether it's for better or worse, she's yet to decide. But she continues to play both sides as long as she can, and ultimately strives to see her goals actualized one day.
